Albert Haynesworth

February 27, 2009

Football deal #2 of the day: Albert Haynesworth.  The Redskins have signed Haynesworth to a $100+ million maximum value deal.  The deal is structured so that Haynesworth is guaranteed over $40 million for just three years of play. The remainder of the value comes from the four years after that and I’m sure there are a lot of bonus stipulations and rewards in the deal. This deal comes astonishingly early in player negotiations. Perhaps it is a record?

Either way: congratulations on the $100 million contract Albert Haynesworth!

Bart Scott goes on a Jet

February 27, 2009

It seems everyone is reporting that Bart Scott has signed a deal with the New York Jets. Bart Scott is a free agent from the Ravens and will be joining his former boss Rex Ryan (another Ravens alumni). The deal is estimated at around $8 million. For more information check out NFL Fanhouse.

Rugby Articles

February 18, 2009

Sorry I’ve been very busy and haven’t updated this blog in a couple of days. Stupid real life.

Anyway, I saw that many people were coming here looking for rugby articles so I didn’t want to disappoint. Right now, all I have is an article on one of Rugby’s top trophies. So below, I have some information about the sport and some links to good articles.

Rugby is actually a number of different sports (two officially) and it comes from football as it developed in England. The two “official” version of rugby are Rugby League and Rugby Union which both have different rulesets. Rugby can also be played according to rules such as Australian rules, American, and Canadian Rugby.

I’ve been very busy because I’ve been working on updating some sections with baseball trophies, basketball trophies, and football trophies. While we sell rugby trophies, they aren’t listed online YET. Soon we’ll have rugby trophies listed online, I promise!

Vince Lombardi Trophy

February 4, 2009
Vince Lombardi Trophy

Vince Lombardi Trophy

The Vince Lombardi Trophy is arguably one of the most recognizable awards in sports. The Lombardi trophy is given to the victors of the NFL’s Super Bowl, considered the worldwide championship of football.  The sterling silver trophy is dedicated to the Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi for his dominant wins in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy is made of sterling silver by Tiffany & Co. with an estimated valuation of $25,000. However, winning this trophy cannot be assigned a monetary amount because of the sentimental value it holds. Weighing in at around seven pounds, the Lombardi Trophy takes four months to mold and craft by hand. After the initial awarding of the trophy, the game’s final score along with the Super Bowl date are engraved into the trophy permanently.

After their recent victory in Super Bowl XLIII, the Pittsburgh Steelers hold the record with six Lombardi Trophies wins. With five Vince Lombardi trophies each, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers trail right behind Pittsburgh. Each team owns the football trophy and keeps it at their stadium or training facilities.

Puxatony Phil Conspiracy

February 2, 2009

Puxatony Phil (a.k.a. Punxsutawney Phil, that Groundhog, and Bill Murray’s worst enemy) has seen his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter. I’ve recently done some investigating and it looks like Puatony has been bribed.

Superbowl 43 Results

February 2, 2009

The first half of the game sucked. Going into halftime, everyone on Earth was predicing a Steeler victory.

The second half had a lot more action, with the Cardinals actually pulling ahead for maybe 3 minutes of the play clock. The Steelers’ offensive line was just too strong, providing Big Ben with enough time to answer back with 35 seconds left in regulation play.

Ads generally sucked as I predict. I think HULU and GoDaddy won with the best superbowl ads.
