In the ultimate shaming, the Lions go 0-16. I don’t think I need to mess with them anymore but maybe I’ll send them a Nice Try Trophy.

Holyfield vs. Valuev video!
Nikolai Valuev (Russian) defended his WBA title here on December 20th over former world champion Evander Holyfield. The relatively unimpressive fight went to the 12th round before Valuev vs. Holeyfield ended with a majority decision in favor of Valuev.

Want to catch up on some of the bowl game scores? I got you!
Eaglebank Bowl: Wake Forest over Navy (29 to 19). After navy went up early, Wake Forest came back with a big second half.
New Mexico Bowl: Colorado State over Fresno State (40 to 35). This was a very high scoring game with a lot of yards. Gartrell Johnson had a great game with 285 yards and an average of 10.6 per carry.
MagicJack St. Petersburg Bowl: South Florida over Memphis (41 to 14). South Florida dominated plain and simple.
Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl: Arizona upsets Brigham Young (31 to 21). Opps pow suprise. Despite Brigham’s Hall getting over 300 yards in the air, Arizona crushed them.
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Southern Miss over Troy (30 to 27). This game was tied going into halftime and then with 0 seconds left in the 4th quarter. A little free football always makes a great football game that much better.

Michael Phelps is interested in starting a new video game franchise but will it be based entirely on swimming? No offense to Michael Phelps but a swimming video game might be difficult to market. Swimming is a very difficult sport to translate into a sport. Golf, football, baseball, and basketball all seem fit for Xboxes and Playstations worldwide but the 400 meter individual medley? John Madden had it a lot easier.

Last week, Alex Mack (a senior center for the Cal Bears) won the 2008 Draddy Trophy. In the ceremony last Tuesday, he was named as the nation’s top football scholar-athlete. Alex Mack was previously named 2008 Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football and has a 3.61 GPA which is very impressive for a dedicated football player.
The scholar-athlete program became the first award to credit a football player for success in both academics and athletics. The Draddy Trophy is awarded to the top scholar-athlete along with a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship. The Draddy Trophy is 24 inches tall, made of bronze, and weights over 20 pounds. If you need more information about college football trophies, this blog should help.

This isn’t football we’re talking about. It’s an even manlier sport. With more brutal action and more injuries.
It’s competitive eating!
Wing Bowl 17 tickets are going on sale today at 9am for the Philly Wing Bowl. Last year I believe Joey Chestnut showed up but this year it is limited to amatuer competitors only. Still should be a fun event. The tickets should be available online or at the Wachovia Center if you are a local.
I would win if it was an ice cream competition hands down.

I was on fire for week 13 and a couple days ago I predicted 3 out of 4 football games and my only loss was very close. I think I should start selling advice. I can call it Dr. Seeker’s Football Picks and you pay $8,000 a week for my winning football advice.
Until then, I’ll just give myself a football trophy for my 75% winning streak:

Ron Santo's Retired Number (Source: Wikipedia - Ron Santo)
Today, Ron Santo will find out whether he receives at least 75% of the votes for him to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ron Santo was a third baseman for the Cubs who played primarilyin the 1960s. Santo has been within 5 votes of entering the Hall of Fame before and even had cameras at his house to witness such a close defeat. This time he is watching with just his wife.
The Cubs’ potential Hall of Famer hit for .277 with over 340 home runes and over 1300 RBIs during the 1960s which is very impressive. He earned 5 consecutive Gold Glove awards starting in 1964 and he had 4 consecutive seasons with over 30 home runs.
Prediction: He gets in this time. The cameras were the jinx.
Ron Santo Hall of Fame Update: He didn’t get the necessary votes this time (Ron Santo came the closest of all the possible future Hall of Fame members with 39 out of the necessary 48 votes).

Vikings Locker Room Exposed!
Come on FOX, didn’t we learn after the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. Now we have the “towel malfunction” except this one is a lot less fun. Is that guy on the right checking him out?
At least they apologized for airing too much in an NFL locker room.
“It was an obvious oversight on our part, and we apologize,” said Dan Bell, the vice president of communications for Fox.
Thanks Dan.
