Apparently Michael Phelps was worried that he didn’t have enough strength left to win his seventh gold medal. For him, six gold medals just wasn’t enough. Poor Mark Spitz’s record was shattered as everyone in the world knows so how did Phelps do it?
Milorad Cavic was how Phelps won. The serbian swimmer apparently had his head up which slowed him down by the fatal 1/100th of a second that decided the race in Phelps’ favor.
Mark Spitz and Milorad Cavic: better luck next time and keep your head down.

The Red Sox are supposedly close to drafting Junichi Tazawa, a 22 year old amateur baseball player. This doesn’t seem to be big news unless you are a Sox fan but it has important reprocussions. It could mean more recruiting between countries.
I don’t recall this occurring in the past but they say rules are meant to be broken.

Well, there is a new man running the Yankees but he has the same name. Hal Steinbrenner, the 40 year old son of George Steinbrenner, will assume control of the Yanks. This is at the request of his father who is turning over control of the baseball team to Hal while Hank (his other son) will manage the financial operations. Lest we forget baseball is a serious moneymaker.
I wonder if they will remain dominate in the next 15 years.

Buick is no longer providing courtesy cars to most PGA tour events in 2009. I for one didn’t know that they even provided the cars so maybe this is just a PR stunt. As they say, there is no such thing as bad press.
Honestly, who knew that they provided the cars to these golf tournaments in the first place?

How hard is it for athletes to stay retired? Michael Jordan couldn’t even retire and we know how dominate he was before trying out the tame life. I think we should send athletes retirement plaques so that they know when to quit.
However, Lance is so dominating that he might just end up being ok after his break.

I recently wrote an article about the famously missing Jules Rimet Trophy. Apparently it was stolen not only once but twice.
In the first theft, the thief was daring enough to demand a 15,000 euro ransom for the return of the golden trophy. After an elaborate and almost made-for-television story, Edward Betchley was convicted of both the theft and demanding the ransom.
Brazil was given the Jules Rimet Trophy in 1970 to hold forever. Brazil’s possession would be much shorter as the trophy was stolen again in 1983 and is still missing.
Edward Betchley died in 1969 so we know that he didn’t do it. However, everyone else could be a suspect. It is assumed that the trophy was melted down for its value in gold. Goes to show you the value of a soccer trophy!

Jules Rimet Trophy
The Jules Rimet was originally named Victory before it was named in honor of the FIFA president. The Jules Rimet Trophy was the original prize for the World Cup between 1930 and 1970. In 1983 the award was stolen and has not been found since. Do you have it?
